Award, thanks!

First of all, I feel like the biggest B ever for just now responding to such a sweet thing. I've been totally off my blogging (and blog friends) game these days. A while ago, sweet Jenn at Going the Distance bestowed a new blog award on me! Before we get this rolling, I'd like to take a moment to just let all of you know that she's a great writer, she has really great and funny insights and her blog is generally just a good use of your blog reading minutes. So go over there.

Anyway, here are all the things for this little award:

1} Name your Favorite Song: Favorite song of all time? How could I ever pick? At this moment in time, my favorite song is Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know. I keep hearing it on the radio in Austin and I can't get enough:

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye on Grooveshark

2} Name your favorite dessert: This is a hot little topic for me. I think I have to go creme brulee:

3} What ticks you off? When people ask your name alot of times. I understand that we all meet people in a bar and forget their name. I can think of people who asked me my name every time for months. Like way more times than is ok. That kills me. It's such a diss. Like they repeatedly don't care enough to remember you.

4} When I'm upset: Couch + poodle + television + stretchy pants.

5} What's your favorite pet? Need we really discuss this?

6} Black or White? Doesn't that really, really depend on what we're talking about? I definitely wear alot more black. Let's go with black.

7} Biggest Fear: Snakes. Hands down. I'm terrified. They have no legs, and they're really sneaky. What's not to loathe?

Seven random thoughts/things about me:

1} Last weekend I took a pole dancing class and it made me sore-r than a workout has in a long time. As awkward as it is to say, mad respect for those pole-dancing ladies.

2} I'm DYING to go to the Mediterranean. My dream trip is to visit Italy and Greece.

3} My favorite number is 11. I can't even remember why now, it's just always been lucky for me.

4} I think 30 Rock is the perfect cinematic symphony of comedy. I can't get enough of it.

5} I've seen Beyonce in concert 4 times. Yes, 4.

6} Every time I see a commercial for Disney World I look up flights to Orlando. I don't know whether its good advertising or just that good of a place. I really can't help myself.

7} I wish I were in college again and could do it all over again. The little nugget (my sister) is 20 and I'm truly envious of her fun world. There are some things I'd definitely do differently, but mostly, I just want to relive all the great times with my roommates and sorority pals -- the days when nobody was married or lived far away.

Since I'm so overdue on this little diddy, I'm just going to call out some of my favorite blog friends, feel free to participate in the award or not! Love you lots: Meg, Meg, Amber, Jenn, RachelTaraChristina and Courtney!

Thanks so much again to sweet Jenn!

Miscellany Monday!

Hello all, my little universe has been crazy lately. But, I'm back this week and ready to blog it up. I've missed you, internet friends. ALOT.

So, it's a great day to participate in this:
Miscellany Monday @
lowercase letters
Here are just a few things keeping me such a busy little bumblebee:

Bachelorette Party Craziness
Last weekend I bopped up to Dallas to celebrate one of by best buddies bachelorette. We got into all kinds of hijinks: a pole dancing class and we all wigged out!

We wore wigs around all night to dinner and clubs and it was super fun. Great theme, but itchy.

Phone-less
While I was wigging out, my iPhone went into the toilet. It was at the beginning of the night, while I was still sharp....which is even more embarrassing. I used a land line for several days. It's so weird. I tried to put our cordless landline phone into my purse on the way out the door like 5 times. IDIOT.
Turns out iPhones can't swim. I spent the better part of last week cleaning up that mess. No phone is pure chaos.

Poodle Health Chaos
The poodle has been having all kinds of issues. Nothing too serious, but he had to go to the vet last week, needs to go back today and is just really out of sorts lately. He's going to be just fine, but it makes me a psycho ball of nerves when he isn't well. You'd think I'd get used to it. Can't.

Please send him all your best prayers/voodoo/meditation/whatever.

Roommate's Birthday
My best pal and semi-spouse turned 26 and we girls painted the town!

Mid-week party night effs me up for like 4 days. Old lady much?

Oscar Movie Prep
This time of year I try to catch up on all the Oscar-Nominated Best Pictures. This weekend I watched:

Tonight, I'm hoping to enjoy Midnight in Paris. I always seem to be scrambling to see all the films right before. Really, the Help is my favorite so far. It swept the SAG awards last night and I hope it does well at the big show!

:)
Also, this has kept me really busy and happy.

Thanks for playin'! Go link up with Carissa! Seeya tomorrow!

Friday, January 20, 2012

Happy Happy Friday everyone! I'm ready to get thru this day and get my weekend on, ya'll! I'm headed up to Dallas for a bachelorette celebration for the record books. Lots of college best pals and my old Dallas posse will be painting the town all weekend. Can't. Wait. But for now, I'm savoring these little news nuggets:

1. Paula Deen is a diabetic. Shocker. This week, the queen of Southern-fried culinary greatness announced on Today that she does have Type II diabetes. Though this doesn't come as much of a surprise, it really kind of shatters my own dreams about being a Southern maven of fatty sweetness someday. I thought she had it all. She was diagnosed years ago, which kind of hurts me as a fan. All this time she could have been helping us all be healthier and advocating for disease research. Also, of course, she's promoting some kind of diabetes medicine along with this announcement. I'm truly disappointed in her. Apparently not disappointed enough to boycott, I made this of hers TODAY. Those recipes are still the best.

2. Get a fur bush coat of your very own!  Whatever am I talking about, you ask? It's a pubic wig made of real fox hair:

SO. SO Weird. Real Housewives of New York's Cindy is promoting these at her spa, Completely Bare. I have some questions... How do they glue it on? Does it feel weird in your pants? What do men think? What's the point? Where's this pink fox? Can it be my pet?.... The whole thing is really absurd to me. I think I need one.
___________________________________________________________________________________

3. Anti-Cheese ads are pure evil. There's a vegan advocacy group, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, who's spreading cheese hate. They recently came out with this ad and splayed it on a New York billboard:

Yes, cheese is unhealthy. Yes, cheese is giving me muffin tops as we speak. But it's so good. I love all cheeses. I was all for anti-obesity legislation and activism until I saw this. Nobody messes with cheese. That's just too far. I rarely redneck out like this, but.... this is AMERICA, dammit. I'm going to eat fatty terrible crap even if it kills me. So take that!

4. Rihanna is secretly hooking up with Chris brown? Yes, I'm talking about the Chris Brown that beat the crap out of her a couple years ago. Supposedly, she's been secretly doing the dirty with him for over a year. I'm so annoyed. I hope this isn't true. She first opted to relax her restraining order against him and now this? I love Rihanna and find him to be terrible. Why did we let him back into the spotlight? We're all to blame. (I also feel this way about Michael Vick, btw) There is no excuse ever for beating a woman. Pop star or not, she owes it to herself as a lady not to give him an inch. Eff that guy.

5. Michael Buble has his own White Zinfandel. And they're even in the presh mini bottles:

If that's not a fast pass to romance, I don't know what is. I've recently become something of a Buble enthusiast (I don't know if the Holidays, aging or spinsterhood is to blame on that one) and we all know how I feel about wine. Plop me down with a four pack of that greatness to watch The Notebook, and I could completely implode. Oh Buble, you always know how to cut to the core of me.

That's all for today friends! I can't wait to hit the road for an action-packed girls weekend. Prepare yourself to be photo bombed Monday....Have a super weekend lovelies!

B & B 3D!

I'm so incredibly, ridiculously pumped to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D tonight. My and my posse are making this something of a tradition. In the fall we got all pinot-ed up and saw Lion King 3D too. I'm MUCH more excited for this one. So, just for funsies, I thought I'd share all these giggle-worthy Hipster Belle meme's I found:

BAHAHAHA. I just love those. LOVE. I can't wait!!!

22 Down, 28 to Go

I was chatting with a friend recently about how many of the 50 states we'd been to. He's been to 47! Forty freaking seven! The three he hasn't visited are Michigan, Alaska and Hawaii! WHOA!

Of course, this got me thinking, how many have I been to? The answer is 23. I've pulled together this handy dandy map for you. The ones in grey I have been to:

I always feel like I've been to alot of places in America, but I've actually been to less than half! Yikes! This surprised me big time.

My favorite American sights include:

The entirety of New York City:

Strolling the Brooklyn Bridge when I lived there Summer 2007

San Francisco:

Visiting besties and strolling the Golden Gate Bridge in Summer 2010.

(No, I don't have a bridge fetish, that just kind of happened)

Lake Tahoe:

Skiing in January 2010. The lake was absurdly breathtaking. What wasn't breathtaking was that I sucked so hard on the slopes, I had to wear a helmet. NERD CITY.

I always daydream about visiting faraway, exotic, foreign lands. Really, there's plenty right here in the good ole U.S. of A. for me to check out! 28 whole states worth!

How many states have you been to?!

How about this fun thing....if you're the commenter with the most states visited, I'll give you a little blog plug and direct all my followers to go check out your well-traveled little self on your site! Yay!

Friday, January 13, 2012

Yep, your eyes aren't deceiving you. This is me doing a Friday Newsflash for the first time in like a jillion years (since Nov. 18, to be exact). I'm committed to gettin' this thing back up and running and boy, does it feel good. These are circling around my brain space this week...

1. Beyonce and JayZ's baby was born!!!!!!

Old news by now, I'm aware, but this whole thing has me fascinated. This baby might be the most badass genius baby in the history of babies. I'm a HUGE fan of the couple. Little Blue Ivy was born this weekend in NYC. They supposedly shut down the whole floor of the hospital for B and it was kind of a swinging party. Ridiculous. Jay Z came out with a rap shortly after her birth:

Not only does this little piece of greatness reference he and B's attempts to have a baby before, it has little Blue's cries in it at the end. The tracked debuted #74 on the Billboard charts this week, making little Blue the youngest to ever make the list. Ridiculous. I have a feeling this is just the beginning. YES!
________________________________________________________________________________

2. Nicotine might be good for you?!!? This is a weird story. According to a new study, senior patients suffering from mild cognitive impairment, which often leads to Alzheimer's were given nicotine patches, others were given a placebo patch. "The patches helped patients do better on cognitive tests for 'attention memory, speed of processing and consistency of processing.' After 6 months of treatment, the nicotine group regained 46 percent of normal longterm memory for their age. The placebo group got 26 percent worse." WOW. I feel like we're so programmed to think the worst of "nicotine", but this study had nothing to do with the carcinogenic side effects of cigarettes. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around it. Cognitive impairment is a thing both sides of my family seem to be prone to. Should we all start slamming Nicorette gum now? VERY interesting.

3. Quotes of the Week:
"I'm just that asshole who really wants everyone to like me, and it's a ridiculous goal and it's an impossible goal. But I think if I just keep pushing forward and showing myself through and through, they will see me again for what I really am and not what has been sort of spun about me." -- Katherine Heigl to Elle magazine

Thanks. She's finally admitting that she's kind of a jerk. I've always thought that. By "showing myself through and through" does she means she's going to continue to be a shameless chain-smoking diva who quits one of the best shows on T.V. to make shitty movies? Ok, I'll admit, I don't like her.

"I wasn't really into the Hollywood thing," she says. "After that, I just realized that I was over it. I was ready to come home." -- Bristol Palin to In Touch
Hallelujah. And it took this long for her to give up on fame because why?  Exhibit A:

________________________________________________________________________________

4. They FINALLY declared Natalee Holloway dead. Just now. Yesterday, a judge in Birmingham, AL declared the teen legally dead. YESTERDAY. She went missing in Aruba in 2005 and her parents seem to have finally given up. NO evidence has been found as to her whereabouts. I've always followed this story closely. Natalee was my age and what happened to her could have happened to me or anyone I know. I miss the days when we could go to tropical isles and just get drunk on spring break without a care in the world. No more. The whole thing is such a sad tale, but what I can't believe is that the parents have taken this long to begin to move forward.  I hope this brings them all peace, but really, I find it mostly weird.
________________________________________________________________________________

5. I can't comment too much on this one and keep it classy, but a friend alerted me to a news story about a English woman, Hazel Jones, who has two sets of lady parts. Two vaginas. Two Uteruses. Two cervixes:

She had no idea until her boyfriend alerted her that something was up down there. WHOA. Let's just meditate on what this means: Two periods. Double cramps. Double pelvic exams. Double pap smears. Also, she lost her virginity TWICE. The good news is she's healthy and it's not that big of a deal, but bless her little heart, right? Maybe she can give her spares to a sweet tranny in need. My mind is blown.
________________________________________________________________________________

6. Khloe Kardashian might not be a Kardashian. Shocker, right?  The rumor mill is saying that Khloe might have a different daddy than Kourtney, Kim and Robert. Two of Robert Kardashian Sr.'s ex wives have claimed that she has another father because Kris was having affairs and the two weren't sleeping together at that point in their marriage. I can't say I'm too surprised. She looks way different....

... seems to have her head on much straighter and, let's just face it, is by far the most normal. I'm sorry that their family may be all effed up, but I kind of hope she isn't one of them. PS: who else is excited for Khloe and Lamar's show to come to Dallas??! I'm pumped.
________________________________________________________________________________

7. Red wine isn't good for you. Shit. Scientists came out with some science back in 2007 that red wine (more specifically grapes) has antioxidants with strong anti-aging quality. Apparently that's not true. The researchers involved in those findings are being charged with 145 acts of data falsification and fabrication. The real heartbreaker for me is the wine thing. I guess I'm just going to have to go back to drinking it in the name of merriment, rather than my health. Balls.

That felt good. I hope you're all having a magical Friday and have a super weekend planned! Hearts!

Lately the Prince has kind of not been behaving. He's gotten into a couple of nasty habits:  He gets into smelly gross stuff in the backyard and needs lots of baths. He wakes up in the middle of the night just be be irritating. He's grouchy to roommate dog, Sillyputty. He won't sleep in my bed (which is by far the worst). I don't know why this has started, he's just suddenly a little butthole. I need to crack the whip on that little diva somehow. I'm just so bad at being strict with him. :)

Current Triumphs:

Honestly, I don't know. Mostly everything I want to triumph is kind of in progress. I guess it's a triumph to be gettin' er done? I'm working out, trying to save money, trying to keep my room/office organized... but no missions accomplished yet... stay tuned.

Avoiding looking like this on my upcoming Hawaii trip...

Current Celebrity Crush:

Always and forever.

Current #1 Blessing:

Butterflies.

Current Indulgence:

I can't keep cereal in the house because I eat it. All of it. And fast. Honestly, I can't even keep carbs in the house. But, we had a houseguest who's gay for these and they're still hanging around. Obviously I can't lay off of them. Special treat.

Old sorority shirt. PJ pants. Uggs. I work from home. I'm a weekday slob.

Current Excitement:

Vacation, bitches. I need it bad.

Excited, optimistic, ready. I'm ready for the weekend, ready for 2012. Ready for anything. This is new for me.

Current Favorite Quote or Verse:

Current Favorite App:

I don't win that often, but I'm a total WWF junkie.

In the winter my eyes get so INCREDIBLY dry. I use this facial/eye cream to keep my peepers silky smooth. I'm addicted.

Well, that was a lot. Thanks for this little gem, Jenn! Happy Thursday all!
