I think I'm an anti-Foodie

Hello all. Recently, I've decided to step on to the wild side and try some new foods. Though it's been fun, I'm really discouraged at my lack of interest in said new cuisines. I'm excited to try new snacks, but rarely am wild about them. Here's a little history:

Sushi. I've had a hate affair with sushi for years. I've tried it ALOT and just think its just too fishy/crunchy/chewy. I go to the good places. I let others order for me. I try it and then I try it some more, but just can't get into it. The thing is, I want to like it. I REALLY want to like it. It's so hip and healthy. I want to be hip and healthy. I may have officially given up, unless I ever find these:

Indian. I recently had my very first foray into Indian food. I had Chicken Tandoori and these little fried things called Chicken Lollipops. The lollipops were ok and so was the Tandoori, but it came with a bunch of weird side things that were all a Curry-splosion in my mouth, including a soup that tasted like gravy with sand in it. Genuinely. It wasn't awful, but I'm pretty sure I'll never crave it.  Also, saying "lets go get Indian" seems to hip, but I really can't say it and mean it.

Vietnamese. Last night me and a couple friends went to a charming little place in Austin that I've been dying to try. It's Vietnamese food set in a quaint French bistro kind of vibe. It was a great place. We ordered a "pork buns" appetizer and I ate Flank Steak Bun (pronounced "booon") as my meal. Looked alot like this except with steak instead of fried tofu:

The pork buns were just plain odd. I liked the Bun, but really the steak was by far the best part of it to me.  Obviously my favorite thing we ordered was sake punch, but that might speak to a different issue altogether.  Though this Vietnamese food was my favorite of the endeavors in this post, it didn't like wow me. I'd eat it again, but probably not unless I had a reason to.Dammit, another semi-fail.

Here's the point: I want to be all cultured and worldly with my food taste, but I've now swung and (semi) missed three times now. I don't know what else to do but keep just sampling it up.

At the end of the day, I usually just want chick nugs. Is that so wrong?

Tell me, is there something wrong with me not being all into ethnicy foods? I feel like a bumpkin idiot.
