Leap Day William is here!

I've said for a long time that I think 30 Rock continues to be the most genius television show on the air. It never fails to deliver well-written, quippy, high-larious comedy riffs. EVER. Last week there was a Christmas-esque episode about the arrival of Leap Day William. It had me in stitches. For reals. Watch the full episode here.

Here' s just a little mini snippet of the goodness:

I hope this Leap Day William bit becomes a real thing. I need a new holiday in my celebrations repertoire. This Leap Day I'm commencing with a pretty average Wednesday... work, gym, fun girls night. Might as well be a holiday!

In related news, the internet tells me that many cultures have old traditions for Leap Day where women propose marriage to men. So ladies, if you're looking to lock it up, better get crackin'! I'm not totally prepared for that kind of gesture this particular year, but I have a feeling 2016 might be my day. By then I suspect I'll be pretty antsy to get that whole "settle down with my life partner" thing going. You've been warned. Leap Day 2016 will be magical.

Happy Leap Day Everyone!

PS: I know I've been pretty absentee. I'm in a blogging rut. Brain is just not working lately. Know that feeling?

The Vow... total swoonfest

Roommate and I had a MONSTER girl date the other night. It was abfab. We had a delicious meal at the Outback Steakhouse (an odd, but beloved favorite of ours. I smell a tradition, y'all), some mall perusing and a wine-y viewing of The Vow. Yes, the girliest lovey thing I've seen in a while. It was fantastic. I went into it prepared to cry, even wore my "its ok to get this snotty" t-shirt. Boy howdy, did I need it. Without giving it away, the movie had major feelings in it. (Obviously, thanks Nicolas Sparks).

Anyway, though he's what I'd call a truly dreadful actor, Channing Tatum. Oh, Channing Tatum. He's not my normal type, but he's def now officially in the Fantasy Boyfriends Club. This is why:

...I think you get what I'm saying. And those are just from the movie!

As for Rachel McAdams .... I like her, but every character she plays has some annoying thing going on. I can't just straight up be on her team ... ever. Here's a good reason:

Also, one more bit of hilarity:

Sigh. Mindless Nicolas Sparks-inspired daydreams, what would I ever do without you?

I'm Baaa-aaack!

Hello all! I'm back from Hawaii and am really not diggin' this "real world" thing. It's decidedly dreary compared to the tropical paradise that is Maui.

A sweet new reggae jam that I discovered over there is the soundtrack for this post:

Night Nurse by Gregory Isaacs on Grooveshark

Here are some things I LOVED about the trip...

It was a business trip for me, but I was lucky enough to get to bring a date. So, I brought 2! My parents!

My favorite thing of the trip was probably whale watching. It was hard to get a great shot, but the whales came right up to the boat!

Sunsets. Where do I even begin?

I also got to spend some MUCH needed time catching up with my work buddies. I like being a home-office-r, but I miss them tons...

Out hotel was the total tits. I'd never take myself to a place like this....

There were ridiculous natural splendors, of course...

Lava Rocks Galore!

I loved every second. I hope we get to go back next year. But, for now... I'm back to bloggin'!

Another special, sparkly, awesomesauce thanks to my guest bloggers: Jenn, Christina, and Syndal! You're the bomb diggity, friends!

Guest Post: Jenn! "Adult?!? Since When??"

Hey, Poodleism followers! I'm Jenn from Going the Distance and I'm here to guest post for Casey while she's away in Hawaii....Ummm, can I say I am TOTALLY jealous?? Hawaii is a place I've always wanted to go, but has yet to be checked off on my list. I can't wait to hear about her trip!

I have been following Casey's blog for a while, and I've noticed a ton of similarities between us. One of which is that we both have SUPER cute and fluffy poodle pets:

Cooper (mine)
the Prince (Casey's)
But, beyond our mutual adoration of the poodle-men in our lives, and several other things, we both seem to periodically come to the realization that we are now among those individuals you would classify as "adults" (despite having moments where we act less than so, hehe)

I have been sitting here lately thinking of, and stumbling upon, all of the cool  things that I want right now, but can't necessarily afford. And, it dawned on me, "When did I become an adult??"--because nothing on my list is what you would typically put in the category of "fun".

This is what I mean:

Cuisinart Soup Maker and Blender
I love soups and other things that fit into the 'yummy in the tummy' category, and this would be awesome to have! But, what kid do you know who would get excited about this? None!

Dresser Spruce Up
I think this is 100% totally cute, but I'm looking at my adult self going "Really?" Yes, really. You are now an adult who dreams over how to make your furniture look cooler/cuter.

The little kid in me goes: "Ooooh! Priiiiiiitty!" while the adult in me says "That would brighten up my bedroom and add such nice pops of color!" Again, is there anything really "fun" about this? Not really, but it's now what makes me happy.

I see this and immediately my heart flutters and my brain begins racing just thinking about how happily organized this little drawer system would make me! **Boring adult! Party of one!**

And, this one might be the lowest of the low....

It drains grease....and I'm excited. What has my life come to???

But, I've sat back and realized, that if I was at this point in my life, still getting excited over Lego's, Barbies, walkie talkies and the like, that I probably would be committed to a mental institute. And, now that I'm a full-fledged adult, (seriously, when did this happen???) I make my own money (the pittance that I make on my teacher salary anyway) and I can go on trips (like maybe to Hawaii???) and I can buy pretty things that make me happy.
Including clothes and earrings, like these:

They make my heart go pitter-patter! :)

So, even though I still have my childish and immature moments (like laughing at something inappropriate,  finding humor in "potty" jokes, drinking a ton wee bit more than I should from time to time), I think I'm more in the adult world than the kid world. I just need to make sure to keep that inner child around so that I don't take this adult world too seriously!

Here's hoping that Casey is getting away from the realities and stressors of the adult world, and getting in some good child-like fun while she's in Hawaii!!

Guest Post: Ellie's Grammy Recap

Disclaimer from the Poodleist herself, who is still Aloha-ing it up hard: My fabulous friend (a real life BFF) was sweet enough to keep me updated on current happenings while I'm away. She shot me a Grammy Awards recap today. This is her email copy/pasted exactly from my inbox...Here's her and I; you might see soon why we're such good buddies....

Ellie's recap of Grammy's:
Bruce Springsteen opened... and I mean, I get that he's famous, but I think it's opening of the Grammy's famous. I mean, if we need people to be patriotic and support their home towns, then he's the first I'll call, but not for this.
Lady Gaga-- Everyone is over her, they maybe showed her once. Which is fine by me. Bring on Nicki Minaj who dressed in a Red Riding Hood-esque cloak and was escorted ALL night by a man dressed like the Pope (who was in her performance). Her performance was uber-weird. Like she was sacrificed during it. Seriously.
Blake Shelton- I officially have too much of a celeb crush on this guy. And I found out he's 6'5. Even better.
Adele is gorgeous!!! I hadn't ever noticed before. Perfect little black ensemble. She killed it with Rolling in the Deep. Everyone was on their feet. She swept all the awards.
I don't get why LL Cool J was the host? I feel if you're not uber-funny or famous, then the show doesn't need a host.
Jennifer Hudson did the most AWESOME rendition of Whitney's I will always love you. She made it her own, while still making it a tribute. And man, she looks good.
Coldplay and Rihanna singing together? yes, please. She started with her own song, then they sang together, and it finished with Coldplay. It was a good compilation.
Chris Brown needs to give it up. His singing and music was horrible, and the dancing wasn't good enough (like it used to be) to make up for it. And he performed twice? what the???
Maroon 5, with Foster the People and Beach Boys. All doing Beach Boy songs. Genius.
Robyn wore the weirdest outfit ever. And yes.... Robyn is still around and invited to the Grammys?? She wore these platform hiking boots and a mullett-ish space era dress.
There's my highlight reel.... it was entertaining.

...and that's how I get thru my work day. Miss you all!

Guest Post: Christina!

Hi! I'm Christina from Christina's Pop Life and I'm so happy to be filling in for Casey while she's away!

The Sundance Film Festival happened in Park City, Utah from January 19-29. Being an independent movie lover, I always keep up with the coverage to see which films are making a splash. I would love to actually go to the festival someday. I’ve seen a few movies at SIFF (Seattle International Film Festival) and sat in on a Q&A of Edward Norton (swoon), but I think Sundance would be awesome. Besides movies there are celebrities, parties, red carpets and media events. Check out who was there this year.

And if you’re not into any of that there’s also skiing and snowboarding. Just look at the setting:

Amazing movies have come out of the festival over the past few years including Winter’s Bone, Margin Call, Adventureland, Catfish, Like Crazy, Blue Valentine, My Idiot Brother, Buried, Hesher, Welcome To The Rileys, The Kids Are Alright and Moon. So let’s see what we have in store for us this year.
Arbitrage. A suspense thriller about a troubled hedge fund magnate desperate to sell his trade empire while covering up his fraud and affair. Starring Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Brit Marling, Tim Roth, and Nate Parker.

Bachelorette. A Bridesmaids type comedy produced by Will Ferrell starring Kristen Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, Rebel Wilson, James Marsden and Adam Scott. Three childhood friends are asked to be bridesmaids at a wedding of a woman they used to ridicule back in high school. They have nothing in common but jealousy and bitterness.

Black Rock. Three childhood friends set aside their personal issues and reunite for a girls' weekend on a remote island off the coast of Maine. One wrong move turns their weekend getaway into a deadly fight for survival. This suspense thriller stars Kate Bosworth, Lake Bell and Katie Aselton.

Celeste and Jesse Forever. Written by Rashida Jones (who also stars) along with Andy Samberg, Elijah Wood and Emma Roberts. High school sweethearts, Type-A Celeste and slacker Jesse, try to remain friends during their divorce while their friends still think of them as the perfect couple.

For a Good Time, Call.... Two broke frenemies become roommates and start a phone sex line. Lauren Miller, Ari Graynor, Justin Long and Seth Rogen star in this comedy co-written by Lauren Miller (Seth Rogen’s wife).

Liberal Arts. Josh Radnor wrote, directed and starred in this dramedy following a bored and uninspired thirty-something invited back to speak at his alma mater where he falls for a 19-year-old college student. Elizabeth Olsen plays his love interest while Zac Efron, Allison Janney and Richard Jenkins also appear.

LUV. This crime drama/coming-of-age film tells the story of a shy 11-year-old bonding with his ex-con uncle (played by Common). While accompanying him on some errands, the day takes a horrible turn when his uncle’s criminal past comes back to haunt him.

Robot and Frank. An elderly, forgetful father is given a robot caretaker by his children. First he is resistant to the idea, but soon sees him as a companion who can help him get back to his old thieving ways. This Sci-fi dramedy stars Frank Langella, James Marsden and Liv Tyler.

Safety Not Guaranteed. Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson and Kristen Bell star in this comedy about three magazine employees that are sent to interview a guy who placed a classified ad seeking a companion for time travel.

Save the Date. Lizzy Caplan and Alison Brie play very different sisters who are in bumpy, emotional relationships. One is planning her upcoming wedding and the other is rebounding from a serious relationship.

The Words. An aspiring writer claims another man's long lost work as his own and the price he must pay is more than he could have ever imagined. Starring Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde, Dennis Quaid and Jeremy Irons.

Your Sister's Sister. Mark Duplass, Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt star in this non-cheesy romantic comedy about a love triangle between a woman, her sister and her male best friend.

Awesome casts. Interesting plots. I want to see all of them! What looks good to you?

Guest Post: Syndal!

Hello Poodleism readers!  I'm Syndal from Synfully Delicious!
I am so thrilled to be guest posting for Casey while she is out on vaycay-I am beyond jealous!
For those of you that have not visited my little bloggy, I live in Minnesota ("isn't it cold there?" yep, we are all very Vitamin D deficient) and I work as a nurse while finishing up my doctorate to be a family nurse practitioner ("isn't that hard?" yep-I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself in to when I applied).  On top of all that, I am planning my our wedding for August 4, 2012!
This is us-soon to be Mr. & Mrs.
With everything going on and how busy and stressful my life is as of late, I try to make time for ME time-good, quality Synfully Delicious time.  And what does that consist of?
I am a utter fool for Harry Potter and I find this completely hilarious.
oh Neville....
Mindless Television:
This includes Real Housewives (Beverly Hills, Jersey, and New York), Kardashian shows (I can't stop watching them!), anything Bachelor/Bachelorette related (can anyone stand Courtney? I'm pretty sure most of us cannot), and of course trying to keep up with Days of our Lives, my fave soap (what is the deal between Stefano & Alice Horton??)
Ryan Gosling:
It's ok, Ryan.
always a work in progress.
Eventually I cannot escape having to study.  It's not so bad.  Us nurses have a sick sense of humor.
Anyways, my point is that Casey knows what's up-she's on vacation and I hope you all make time for a fabulous trip this year too!  It is so important to take care of yourself and live your life.
Thanks for letting me visit Casey!!
