Real Life Swoon Fest
Prepare yourselves for truly absurd (and totally ridiculous) romantic sweetness. But really.
Yes folks, that is a stack of love letters. LOVE FREAKING LETTERS. My grandfather meticulously wrote love letters to my grandmother while he was away for WWII. He was away fighting, she was here pining. That's Nicolas Sparks movie type of stuff, y'all.
Here's a particularly swoon-worthy passage:
In the last couple of years, both of my grandparents on my mother's side have passed away. She went first and he was shortly after - like he couldn't hold on without her. So sweet. This Christmas, we were all in their home celebrating and began somewhat heart-wrenching process of looking through all their stuff.
As we rummaged through Christmas Spode and old photos, we found this:
Yes folks, that is a stack of love letters. LOVE FREAKING LETTERS. My grandfather meticulously wrote love letters to my grandmother while he was away for WWII. He was away fighting, she was here pining. That's Nicolas Sparks movie type of stuff, y'all.
Here's a particularly swoon-worthy passage:
"Darling -- I'm gradually getting back toward Texas. I love you, little girl, very much -- Don't forget it.
Loving You, Your Maynard"
Um, hai. That's a real thing? I'm not usually that much of a softie, but flipping through these letters brought tears to my eyes.
This IS a real thing. There ARE these boys out there. This is all true:
I'm going to set out to nab me one.

I LOVE this! Thank you for sharing it!! xoxo.
ReplyDeleteOh. Em. Gee. That is SUPER sweet!
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents had a total movie worthy thing too: my grandma wrote a letter 'TO: Any soldier" and my grandpa was the lucky guy who got it. They wrote to each other, having never met, and then when the war was over, they met, and got married, and were married until they both died two years ago, also within a few months of one another.
I love sweet love stories. Thanks for sharing, Casey! :)
Thanks, Case.
