Glee Convert...maybe.

Ok, some of you may know this. I've been struggling with a love/hate relationship with Glee for months now. I was very skeptical of the show. At first I couldn't even enjoy it. It was too squeaky clean and unrealistic for me. The songs are just so fake its absurd. So for a long time, I was a hardcore Glee naysayer.

I even went so far as to say "Glee is my new sushi." The similarities are were striking. In both cases, Glee and sushi,  I wanted to like them. All of the elements were there for me to like them. Others I loved and respected were big fans. I tired to like them, I strained my mind to open up to them both. No luck.

I still hate sushi (but am still really trying to like it), but I'm warming way up to Glee. Honestly, I think I even like it - alot. I've watched the last few episodes and gotten copious giggles. The decision to give it another try sprang from my lack of Tuesday television commitments and one final last ditch effort to get on that bandwagon.

Last week's Bieber episode left me crying - laugh crying. There's really nothing better than the Bieber baby.

But last night, I went to a whole new Gleeky place. Teen alcohol awareness week on Glee, and the Glee club's alcohol-related blunders, was just what I needed. Finally, something on the show that wasn't so after school special-ish. I loved it.

Britney as Ke$ha honestly blew my mind:

Also, this phone scene caused me to cackle like the Wicked Witch of the West:

Then of course the hangovers....

And of course, Artie and Britney are my perennial favorites:

Go here for more .gif giggles.

Now, I don't want you all to think that it takes a booze-fueled episode to get me pumped up about Glee, I really have been really enjoying it since the Superbowl Thriller episode. But, something that was a little bit more life-like (high schoolers getting drunk and dumb) sent me over the edge. The writing and witty banter is really pretty genius in any episode.

I do still have a complicated relationship with Glee. Some of the songs are still too stupid for me. I'm very anti their recent  bit to write original songs for Regionals - dumb. But, I've found that if I just fast forward through some of the singing, and spend my time focusing on the genius dialogue and storylines, it's quite a pleasant experience for me. Baby steps.

So, if you've been a victim of my Glee hate, I'm sorry. This is me eating my words.

  2. I was feelin' Gleeky from the beginning because it just made me feel good, but the beginning of this season left something to be desired. It's like they just wanted to capitalize on the success and sell iTunes downloads, so they'd do big name covers, which made the plot suffer. Since it's been back from winter hiatus, it's had some golden moments. Totally pumped for Gwenyth to come back next episode - she plays my namesake! =)

  3. I LOVE GLEE! I still need to watch last night's episode. Your pictures amp up the anticipation! I admit some of the songs are a little much but I love me some Rachel Berry ('s voice!) and Brittany's dancing!

  4. I've been a fan from the beginning, but I know exactly what you mean. For a while it got WAY too cheesy and squeaky clean, as you say. BUT this week's episode and the few previous ones have been TV gold! Glad you're warming up to it!
