Fill in the Blank Friday - Magazines!
I know an adventure recap is way overdue (it's coming), but I couldn't resist today's Fill in the Blank Friday over at The Little Things We Do. Today, it's all about magazines. I actually have a degree in Magazine Journalism and am a die-hard believer in the printed word (despite my steadfast commitment to this and many other blogs). So, I just couldn't pass this one up:
1. If I could only read one magazine publication for the rest of eternity, I would choose Glamour. It's really girl, I'm aware, but for me it's the perfect mix of fashion, celebrity profiles, health and actual investigative stories. Highly recommend.
2. If I were to run my own magazine it would be probably a lot like this blog. There would be humor, girly things and a dash of celebrity gossip.
3. I buy my magazines (at the grocery check stand or via subscription) at the checkstand or the airport. I used to have subscriptions, but I stopped keeping up with them and decided not to pay for them. Also, I move alot. I fully intend to be a subscriber when I'm a "real grownup" (by the way, I keep saying that like it's some faraway thing...). These days a magazine buy is a treat for traveling and special occasions, like when the Teen Moms are on the cover. :)
4. I prefer my magazines (in print or online) in
print, duh. First of all, magazines have a distinct (and delicious) smell to me. You lose that online. Also, the online version doesn't feel as leisurely to me. There's something relaxing to me about lazily browsing and flipping the pages that you don't get with clicking. But, I have a sweet friend, and fellow magazine enthusiast, who shares many of his online subscriptions with me, so I partake.
5. The number of magazines I buy each month is probably 2 or 3. I wish it could be more, but they're kind of an expensive, and very distracting, habit. I had to break myself of buying them all the time in college when I had actual important reading to do. Now, the recessionista in me has to spend her grocery dollars on food. Pout.
6. My favorite magazine genre is (lifestyle, gossip, home, etc...) oooh, this is a toughie. I love, love gossip magazines. I could read one US Weekly a week until I die. But, I also love fashion. Online, I like to read more literary and investigative-focuseed ones like Texas Monthly, The Atlantic and The New Yorker, but that's only feeling extra sophisticated.
7. The magazines I read regularly are Glamour, US Weekly and Texas Monthly. But, I will say, lately Martha Stewart Living has creeped in to my repertoire. That woman sure knows here way around a kitchen.
Thanks for this great topic today, Lauren! I hope everyone is staying warm and entertained on this snowy Friday!
