Love is in the Air!

One weird thing I've noticed over my years as an observer of the celebrity world is that when all the stars seem to be in love and happy in their relationships, me and my friends seem to all be breaking up. That could be a psychological thing; just when I feel like my life is falling apart, everyone around me is in total harmony...or so it seems to me. Anyway, this time around, the opposite is going on. In the last couple of weeks, it seems that I've read time and time again that famous people are splitting up. Meanwhile, there is happiness and reconciliations everywhere I'm looking with myself and my little social world. This is clearly the most preferred situation because I get to enjoy my own life being all flowers and sunshine whilst reading nasty muckraking about all the celebs' messy breakups. YES. It is my birthday month, afterall. So, I'll commence breaking down all the famouses that are calling it quits after relatively long relationships: Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy. Boo. This one makes me sad. I love this hilarious duo, but after 5 years they're throwing in the towel. No real details have emerged about why, but both Jenny and Jim announced the breakup via Twitter. I'm sad, they're funny, smart and they're autism activists. Power couple turns power individuals. Guess not all is lost.
Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes. They've been married seven years and have a couple of kids to show for it. Supposedly the trouble started brewin' back when Mendes was directing Winslet in Revolutionary Road (If you've seen the movie, you know that it makes marriage seem terrible (awkward). Pretty much all of my fears/qualms about tying the knot come to life in this film.) Anyway, they're putting on a good face for the kids, it seems to be a relatively amicable split. Snooze. I hope she starts dating someone scortching hot and much younger than her (just to spice things up). She's too fabulous to be wasting dates on ugly borings. Almost the whole cast of Gossip Girl. As things typically go with newly famed starlets, most of the cast of my fave Upper East side drama are dating off camera too.
  • Ed Westwick (Chuck) and Jessica Szohr (Vanessa) had been dating a while, but apparently while he's on location she's pedaling her goods all around town. He would have none of it and dumped her. She's now apparently pleading for him back. I would be too. They were a dreadfully boring couple until now.
  • Sebastian Stan (Carter) and Leighton Meester (Blair) have been dating for ages and she's finally done with him. My best guess is the breakup is because he isn't really going anywhere. She claims that she "doesn't know how to be in relationships" and wants to focus on her pop star career. We all know there is no taming Blair Waldorf/Leighton Meester.
  • As a strange and semi-incestuous twist, in the actual plot of Gossip Girl, Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leigton Meester) are in the middle of a horrendous breakup because Chuck has betrayed her beyond repair. We all knew this day was coming. I wonder if the actors ever get confused on set. With the off-camera romances on top of the ridiculously intertwined and incestuous dating on the show, do they ever accidentally make out with the wrong person?
Reggie Bush and Kim Kardashian. This isn't exactly new news, but they've been on and off for years and I genuinely believed they'd make it work. He supposedly doesn't care for the media circus that follows her everywhere she goes and she isn't willing to compromise her "career" to be with him. I feel bad for her, she's just making a name for herself and earning her own money and he can't take it. Meanwhile, all her sisters are settling into domestic bliss. Boo him. Sandra Bullock and that No-Name Idiot. I've already discussed this, but since then tons more crap has come out, including a possible extremely raunchy sex tape of her and Jesse (which she has adamantly denied) and an on-air apology to Bullock from the homewrecker. The latest is that she's taking care of his children, drawing up divorce papers and trying to be rid of him forever. Amen. Meanwhile, in my universe love is in the air! I'm feeling luckier than ever to have Manfriend. New romances are budding. Old ones may be rekindling. All the couples I can think of are thriving. Several people have gotten engaged lately. Sorry for the vagueness, not sure if all of the people I'm referring to are ready to broadcast their personal victories via the interwebs just yet. While it breaks my heart somewhat to be so out of sync with the famouses, I'm a-ok with this situation!
